Food is made up of carbohydrates, fats, proteins, water, and minerals and probably some other stuff. A carbohydrate is a type of component in food that can be broken down by the body into glucose (blood sugar).

The Atkins diet is all about avoiding carbohydrates and the foods that contain them. Foods high in carbohydrates are anything sweet, starches, rice, pasta, bread, potatoes, and grains.
